- GCN notice #1930
K. Hurley and T. Cline, on behalf of the Ulysses and Mars Odyssey teams,
I. Mitrofanov, D. Anfimov, A. Kozyrev, M. Litvak and A. Sanin, on
behalf of the HEND-Odyssey GRB team, and
W. Boynton, C. Fellows, K. Harshman, C. Shinohara and R. Starr, on
behalf of the GRS-Odyssey GRB team, report:
This event was observed by Ulysses and Mars Odyssey (GRS and HEND).
Its Earth-crossing time was 13102 +/- 287 s. (The uncertainty is
due to the fact that no near-Earth spacecraft has reported this
event so far.)
As observed by Ulysses, it had a duration of approximately 20 seconds,
a 25-100 keV fluence of approximately 2.3E-05 erg/cm2, and a peak flux
of approximately 3.0E-06 erg/cm2 s over 0.25 seconds.
We have triangulated it to a preliminary annulus centered at
RA, Decl (2000) = 323.478, -42.567 degrees, with radius 31.976 +/- 0.057
degrees.
This annulus may be constrained and/or improved. As it seems
likely that this event was observed by a near-Earth spacecraft,
a small error box can probably be derived for it.

K. Hurley and T. Cline, on behalf of the Ulysses and Mars Odyssey GRB teams,

on behalf of the GRS/Odyssey GRB team, and
D. M. Smith, R. P. Lin, J. McTiernan, R. Schwartz, C. Wigger, W. Hajdas,
and A. Zehnder, on behalf of the RHESSI GRB team, report:
Ulysses, Mars Odyssey (HEND and GRS), and RHESSI observed this GRB
(GCN 1930) at 13102 seconds (Earth-crossing time).
We have triangulated it to two preliminary, 3 sigma error boxes whose
approximate areas are 40 sq. arcmin. each and whose coordinates are:
RA(2000) DEC(2000)
ERROR BOX CENTER: 21 h 53 m 27.24 s -10 o 52 ' 14.24 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 1: 21 h 53 m 24.33 s -10 o 50 ' 7.63 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 2: 21 h 54 m 0.73 s -10 o 51 ' 12.32 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 3: 21 h 52 m 53.73 s -10 o 53 ' 17.74 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 4: 21 h 53 m 30.13 s -10 o 54 ' 20.87 "
and
ERROR BOX CENTER: 21 h 4 m 14.52 s -74 o 21 ' 56.53 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 1: 21 h 3 m 55.15 s -74 o 23 ' 44.85 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 2: 21 h 6 m 7.04 s -74 o 25 ' 19.24 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 3: 21 h 2 m 22.89 s -74 o 18 ' 28.49 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 4: 21 h 4 m 33.81 s -74 o 20 ' 8.06 "
These error boxes lie approximately 18 and 71 degrees from the
Sun, respectively. They can be improved, and, although neither
is Earth-blocked or Mars-blocked, it should eventually be
possible to determine which is the correct one.
A GCN socket message will be issued shortly.

K. Hurley and T. Cline, on behalf of the Ulysses and Mars Odyssey GRB teams,
D. M. Smith, R. P. Lin, J. McTiernan, R. Schwartz, C. Wigger, W. Hajdas,
and A. Zehnder, on behalf of the RHESSI GRB team,
I. Mitrofanov, D. Anfimov, A. Kozyrev, M. Litvak and A. Sanin,
on behalf of the HEND/Odyssey GRB team, and
W. Boynton, C. Fellows, K. Harshman, C. Shinohara and R. Starr,
on behalf of the GRS/Odyssey GRB team, report:
Analysis of the count rates in the front and rear segments of
the RHESSI detectors indicates that it is highly likely that
the correct position for this burst (GCN1930, 1931) is the one at 71 degrees
from the Sun, i.e.:
ERROR BOX CENTER: 21 h 4 m 14.52 s -74 o 21 ' 56.53 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 1: 21 h 3 m 55.15 s -74 o 23 ' 44.85 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 2: 21 h 6 m 7.04 s -74 o 25 ' 19.24 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 3: 21 h 2 m 22.89 s -74 o 18 ' 28.49 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 4: 21 h 4 m 33.81 s -74 o 20 ' 8.06 "
We will attempt to confirm this with Konus-Wind data, which
are expected shortly.

E. Mazets and S. Golenetskii, on behalf of the Konus-Wind GRB team,
D. M. Smith, R. P. Lin, J. McTiernan, R. Schwartz, C. Wigger, W. Hajdas,

teams,
I. Mitrofanov, D. Anfimov, A. Kozyrev, M. Litvak and A. Sanin,
on behalf of the HEND/Odyssey GRB team, and
W. Boynton, C. Fellows, K. Harshman, C. Shinohara and R. Starr,
on behalf of the GRS/Odyssey GRB team, report:
Analysis of the Konus data, and reanalysis of the RHESSI data for this
event (GCN 1930, 1931, and 1932) both indicate clearly that the correct
position for this burst is NOT the one reported in GCN 1932, but
rather, the position at 18 degrees from the Sun, i.e.:
RA(2000) DEC(2000)
ERROR BOX CENTER: 21 h 53 m 27.24 s -10 o 52 ' 14.24 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 1: 21 h 53 m 24.33 s -10 o 50 ' 7.63 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 2: 21 h 54 m 0.73 s -10 o 51 ' 12.32 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 3: 21 h 52 m 53.73 s -10 o 53 ' 17.74 "
ERROR BOX CORNER 4: 21 h 53 m 30.13 s -10 o 54 ' 20.87 "
We regret any confusion caused by GCN 1932.
