At 07:40:19 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located GRB 220302A (trigger=1094950). Swift did not slew to the burst. The BAT on-board calculated location is RA, Dec 301.432, +49.389 which is

with an uncertainty of 3 arcmin (radius, 90% containment, including systematic uncertainty). The BAT light curve showed a complex structure with a duration of about 20 sec. The peak count rate was ~1156 counts/sec (15-350 keV), at ~2 sec after the trigger.
Swift is currently restarting after a reaction wheel failure, so automatic slews to GRBs are turned off. Therefore there will be no XRT or UVOT observations at this time.

MASTER-OAGH robotic telescope (Global MASTER-Net: http://observ.pereplet.ru, Lipunov et al., 2010, Advances in Astronomy, vol. 2010, 30L) located in Mexico (OAGH National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics) was pointed to the Swift GRB 220302A ( E. Troja et al., GCN 31661) errorbox 2514 sec after notice time and 2575 sec after trigger time at 2022-03-02 08:23:15 UT, with upper limit up to 16.6 mag. The observations began at zenith distance = 87 deg. The sun altitude is -63.3 deg.
The galactic latitude b = 9 deg., longitude l = 84 deg.

Continuing the recovery from the Reaction Wheel anomaly, Swift has performed a follow-up observation of GRB 220302A which occurred at 07:40:19 UT (Troja et al., GCN 31661).
The XRT began observing the field at 16:41:18.7 UT, 32459.3 seconds after the BAT trigger. Using promptly downlinked data we find an uncatalogued X-ray source located at RA, Dec 301.43151, 49.38868 which is equivalent to: RA(J2000) = 20h 05m 43.56s Dec(J2000) = +49d 23' 19.2" with an uncertainty of 4.7 arcseconds (radius, 90% containment). This location is 1.6 arcseconds from the BAT onboard position, within the BAT error circle. This position may be improved as more data are received; the latest position is available at https://www.swift.ac.uk/sper. We cannot determine whether the source is fading at the present time.
A power-law fit to a spectrum formed from promptly downlinked event data gives a column density consistent with the Galactic value of 3.44 x 10^21 cm^-2 (Willingale et al. 2013).
UVOT took a finding chart exposure of 150 seconds with the White filter starting 32463 seconds after the BAT trigger. No credible afterglow candidate has been found in the initial data products. The 2.7'x2.7' sub-image covers 100% of the XRT error circle. The typical 3-sigma upper limit has been about 19.6 mag. The 8'x8' region for the list of sources generated on-board covers 100% of the XRT error circle. The list of sources is typically complete to about 18 mag. No correction has been made for the expected extinction corresponding to E(B-V) of 0.216.

J.P. Osborne, A.P. Beardmore, P.A. Evans and M.R. Goad (U. Leicester) report on behalf of the Swift-XRT team.
Using 1271 s of XRT Photon Counting mode data and 2 UVOT images for GRB 220302A, we find an astrometrically corrected X-ray position (using the XRT-UVOT alignment and matching UVOT field sources to the USNO-B1 catalogue): RA, Dec = 301.43044, +49.38699 which is equivalent to:

```
with an uncertainty of 2.9 arcsec (radius, 90% confidence).

Following the detection of GRB 220302A by Swift (Troja et al. GCNC 31661), the BOOTES-5/JGT 0.6m robotic telescope at Observatorio Astronomico Nacional in San Pedro Martir (Mexico) automatically started to observe the GRB localization starting on Mar 2 at 12:59 UT (~5.3 hours after trigger). In the co-added image (5 x 60 s exposures in the clear filter), no optical afterglow is detected within the Swift/XRT error region (Troja et al. GCNC 31664, Osborne et al. GCNC 31666) down to 20.3 mag. This non-detection is consistent with the UVOT (Troja et al. GCNC 31664) and MASTER observation (Lipunov et al. GCNC 31662).

We have analysed 3.4 ks of XRT data for GRB 220302A (Troja et al. GCN Circ. 31661), from 32.5 ks to 160.8 ks after the BAT trigger. The data are entirely in Photon Counting (PC) mode. The enhanced XRT position for this burst was given by Osborne et al. (GCN Circ. 31666).
The light curve can be modelled with a power-law decay with a decay index of alpha=0.7 (+0.5, -0.4).

The Swift/UVOT began settled observations of the field of GRB 220302A 32464 s after the BAT trigger (Troja et al., GCN Circ. 31661). No optical afterglow consistent with the XRT position (Osborne et al. GCN Circ. 31666) is detected in the initial UVOT exposures. Preliminary 3-sigma upper limits using the UVOT photometric system (Breeveld et al. 2011, AIP Conf. Proc. 1358, 373) for the first finding chart (FC) exposure and subsequent exposures are:

The magnitudes in the table are not corrected for the Galactic extinction due to the reddening of E(B-V) = 0.217 in the direction of the burst (Schlegel et al. 1998).
