report on behalf of the MAXI team:
The MAXI/GSC nova alert system triggered a bright uncatalogued X-ray transient source
at 14:28:50 UT on January 14, 2024.
Assuming that the source flux was constant over the transit,
we obtain the source position at
(R.A., Dec) = (78.966 deg, 33.742 deg) = (05 15 51, +33 44 31) (J2000)
with a statistical 90% C.L. elliptical error region
with long and short radii of 0.28 deg and 0.25 deg, respectively.
The roll angle of long axis from the north direction is 159.0 deg counterclockwise.
There is an additional systematic uncertainty of 0.1 deg (90% containment radius).
The X-ray flux averaged over the scan was 145 +- 21 mCrab
(4.0-10.0keV, 1 sigma error).
Without assumptions on the source constancy, we obtain a rectangular error
box for the transient source with the following corners:
(77.740, 33.819) deg = (05 10 57, +33 49 08) (J2000)
(77.869, 33.281) deg = (05 11 28, +33 16 51) (J2000)
(80.079, 33.628) deg = (05 20 18, +33 37 40) (J2000)
(79.963, 34.167) deg = (05 19 51, +34 10 01) (J2000).
There was no significant excess flux in the previous transit at 12:55 UT
and in the next transit at 16:01 UT with an upper limit of 20 mCrab for each.
