Gamma-ray Burst 971024

A rather faint Gamma-Ray Burst (BATSE trigger No. 6448) was detected with the RXTE/ASM on October 24.4816, 1997 UT. The location could be reduced from the original 6 degrees down to a 9.0*1.9 arcmin ellipse centered at R.A. = 276.241, Decl. = +49.482 degrees and rotated 33 degree clockwise wrt the latitutde line. It is noteworthy that the GRB was weak (about 10 sigma), and so is the afterglow: mean X-ray flux (2-12 keV) of 50 mCrab (all information courtesy of D. Smith and R. Vanderspek (MIT))..

• Deep images available from the KPNO people (Buell Jannuzi and Arjun Dey). Images were obtained on the nights of 25 October and 26 October using the KPNO 4m and the prime focus Mosaic imager, providing a 35 arcminute field of view. On each night they obtained five 10 minute exposures in the R-band.
